It’s been dark and dreary…I refuse to use a flash or any other form of non natural lighting for still photography. I hate flash. i rarely use it. They said it was suppose to rain today and be a high of 44….well, it’s been snowing most of the day….it finally stopped. it’s around 37 and a very greyscale sky. No RGB lighting available. I got another week and a half….get off my back 😉

James, re ‘still life’: I was going to submit a picture of me asleep on the couch, but I didn’t want to be irreverent….

Same here so I experimented using Barbara’s and Leen’s advice. I used a halogen lamp (barb) to light my subject from the side (leen) and tried diffusing and bouncing the light with a sheet and aluminum foil. Proper lighting equipment is just one of the many things on my long and growing list of things I really shouldn’t be spending money on.

ha ha ha…I told my hub the same thing…told him I’d take a pic of him on the couch ‘resting his eyes’…as he likes to put it….for still life….could be worse…would have been the same for ‘dead life’…oops, didn’t mean that literally 😉

I’m from Louisiana and I know New Olins doesn’t get out of your system that quickly. Be irreverent and enjoy it.

Jodi, one of the highlights of my trip was the appetizer I had for dinner one night: grilled alligator!

I spent the first thirty years of my life there, also in the dark. We decided to move when we had a choice of Edwin Edwards (now in jail) or David Duke (the clan guy) for governor. I just couldn’t see raising my son there.

James, tomorrow is my day off and I will try to produce something decent. My wife is on holidays in the Alps, so I should have plenty of time.

Sorry James…. I haven’t done the other challenge yet this week either…I seem to have been very busy without acheiving anything much at all this week… one of the joys and delights of being at home looking after small children…..

It’s been a long exhausting week, and today, my first day off was/is being spent just laying around the house and playing with my boys. I’m going to break out the camera tomorrow and see if I can come up with anything. Great shots so far from those who’ve submitted entries.

Don’t apologize, I’m just jokingly trying to light a fire under everyone. I raised my son alone from the time he was eleven months until I met my wife when he was six. I understand more than you might think.

Still life doesn’t sit around in a bowl too long with boys around the house.

With my two boys, "Still Life" is pretty much a misnomer. No such thing in this house! 😉

First thing I think of when I hear "Still Life" is Fruit or Vases … I’ve come up with a couple ideas but got hung up on one (ha ha). Marty

James,

Looks like I may have to give it another pass again this time. Wife is away for nine days. so I pretty much have to take care of the chores around the house. Been having quite a time struggling with the on-aging off-again computer and the cable connection. My winter cold sort of deteriorated into a mild case of bronchitis (according to the doc). Real bummer!

Just dug up a 25 year old Sunpak flash that has a small reflector bounce attachment. I thought it would be great for still life. But the battery terminals seem to have caked up. It will take a lot of scraping before I known it’ll ever work again. Now if I can find the slave unit, I’ll have myself a table-top setup.
