work using ProPhoto RBG with raw images. for proofing I resize and convert to sRBG, then Save For Web. First problem is that the resulting image looks darker in the Save For Web dialogue. Worse, however, is when I reopen them in PS2 later on the colors are extremely exaggerated…very cyan skies, pink skin tones. I’ve tried changing the way PS2 color manages to preserve the embedded space which seems as though it should work. No. However, when I view the images as an email attachement they do look correct albeit a bit dark as they appeared in the Save for Web window.

Photoshop 2 is really old, and not color managed.

Jerry,

I assume you mean Photoshop CS2, particularly as PS2 was a Mac-only product.

If you are seeing a vast difference between sRGB and the Save for Web view it definitely suggests that your monitor profile is NOT a good profile.

When viewing in Save for Web you are viewing in a non-colour managed environment (equivalent to setting your proof colours to monitor rgb).

A bad monitor profile would also explain why when re-opening the images in PS they look bad.
