For some of my graphics being able to select the background with the wand seems like to the best approach but leaves a lot to be desired. When I have to take this route it is because the outlne of what we want is very irregular and using the laso selection tool with a feather but be a nightmare. (most recent graphic – a ball of yarn)

But the wand doesn’t offer a feather feature which would help.

Is there any way to feather a wand selection to give me a softer edge? Background tends to be shades of white (shot under photo lights with a K of 3200).

Once you have your Wand selection, go to Select menu/Feather and choose a value.

[I use Cmd Option D as a shortcut for "Feather".]
