I need to create a custom palette in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 from the colours in an image file I was sent.

I have been trying to figure out how to do this and haven’t had much luck.

In Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11, I would choose Window –> Color Palettes –> Create Palette from Document

Can I do the same thing in Photoshop Elements 2? The only thing I seem to be able to do so far is create a custom palette by manually inserting the colours. (Bleah)

Any help would be appreciated!

Go to the Image Tab. Image>mode>indexed color. Under palette tab click custom. I think this will do it.

I was hoping someone would come along with an easier way to do this. After the steps outlined in the previous post I usually do a screen capture of the pallet and save as jpeg to have open in Elements to use the colors that were captured. It is not an easy workaround but it has worked. Any other advice from the Gurus?

When you say "Image Tab", what do you mean? Choose "Image" from the Main Menu or something else?

Not a heavy Photoshop User.

Never mind, figured it out.

I had Indexed Color selected as a default. I re-selected RGB Color, then Indexed Color and the screen with Custom appeared.

Not sure if it captures the colors. This feature isn’t all that intuitive.

It’s a workaround more so than a feature but it has worked for me. See sample at:

If the link doesn’t work it is the last image in the Elements Group Test Album.
