quick mask brush

I make a selection with pen tool – go to quick mask and it makes all else red. I usually can then either erase to reveal more image, or use the brush to put more mask in. But now brush acts like eraser, it reveals more image like the eraser does. Searched everywhere – can’t find the answer. I’m using PS 8

With masks painting black erases, painting white shows. Change your brush color.

Hit "D" for default colors; then hit "X" to toggle between black and white — then you will have no need to change from brush to eraser at all.
