I’m having a hell of a time downsizing screen shots and keeping the text crisp and legible. Are there any tricks or methods that I can use to get a clean image?

Beyond using bicubic sharper as interpolation method, not really

That is unfortunate. I am using bicubic. I’ve tried sticking to 75% or 50% resize intervals with no luck.

If you’re just doing a few, bicubic sharper, and don’t save a .jpg. .PNG is usually my choice.

If you’re going to do anywhere between a bunch and a herd of screenshots, look at SnagIt or one of the other dedicated screen grabber/editors.

A couple things you might try to improve quality:
* adjust the colors of the display you’re capturing to increase contrast between the text colors and background
* If you must resize, also bump the dpi. You’re starting at 72 or 96 and it all goes downhill from there.
* If you _really_ want great quality, think about wiping the type out of the screen shot entirely — create layers to hold replacement type, float them into place, and then paint over the bmp type on the background layer.

For downsizing screenshots that contain text, Nearest Neighbor usually gives better (i.e., more readable) results.

That Smart Blur technique is great at cleaning up noise and artefacts while retaining sharp edges, for example to text.
