(Apologies if this has already been covered, but it did not show up in a search).

After updating to 9.0.2 I now find that my system hangs when I try to save a file – no keyboard, no mouse, so needs system reboot.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone got round it?

(System: AMD XP3200, 1Gb ram, 240Gb SATA scratch disk, Win XP Pro SP2+ auto updates)

Reset your preferences as detailed in the FAQs. These become corrupted when PS crashes or is not closed down properly, and can cause all sorts of problems.

Ashley,

If the whole system hangs (CRTL+ALT+DEL no longer has any effect) it strongly suggests a hardware or BIOS error, most likely a bad RAM chip but could also be HDD, HDD Controller, CPU or even a motherboard component. An application cannot cause a complete system lock-up – although a VERY badly written driver can.

Thanks both.
Len, I think you have it. PSU fan has started screeching and I suspect insufficient cooling (it is 32C here today). I’ll replace the PSU and try again!

don’t run your system until the fans are working! heat kills!
