It’s not really bad advice, but you’re right…it doesn’t answer the question. Sounds like a virus might be involved, though.

hard to say without more details… but you’re right too, not bad advice, per se, just not the advice the poster was looking for! 🙂

I’m going to jump in and suggest memory. The last thread I posted in where dave and I had a great exchange over similar problems was not resolved at the end, but later the new, dual core system suffered a complete failure.

Why memory was not considered is that the computer was intermittent, but ultimately, failed completely as the problem got worse. We traded mobos and video cards, and it still failed. I even considered power supply. But in the end, we pulled one of the two 1G sticks, and the computer came alive.

So, memory has to go on the list of suspects.
