For all of you that have noise problems and looking for software/plugins, there is a nice little comparison here <http://www.michaelalmond.com/Articles/noise.htm>

(It hasn’t got NeatImage v3 yet)

I downloaded NI 3. Way cool, but who has time?

I played with it, and there are plenty of sliders and adjustments.

Are you using any of the products listed in the web site?

I have got NI 3, as a trial for the moment – thinking of registering as seems OK.

There are a lot of pre-defined camera profiles available, to take the hard work out of it.

I was over on a dpreview forum, and there are lots of discussions on noise for various cameras – problems and moans etc.

Thought for the odd photo that has noise problems it may be useful to the guys here. I also use ptlens <http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/> for the odd photo with too much barrel distortion.

I know most of the guys here wouldn’t use these tools all the time, but they are handy to know about.

Most of the time noise reduction isn’t required – but every now and then I find myself having to shoot at ISO 400 and then – well on a compact digicam anyway – it is useful. Sadly the two market leaders aren’t available for the mac yet. PTlens isn’t mac either (the underlying panotools plugin runs in OS9 but the documentation is not very helpful – but it does work if you can work out what to do.)

I also have the trial. Where did you find the camera profiles, Paul?
