I’ve posted the original photo plus the heavily altered version here:

The goal of this manipulation was not to create a great image. Rather, it was to take a photo that I liked despite its many flaws, and experiment with manipulating it to turn the mediocre original into an acceptable image.
I’m a Photoshop newcomer (obviously), and figured I ought to stop reading about techniques and try some. The modifications here are pretty obvious – contrast correction, lots of smoothing of the sky, motion blur in the water, tiny fix to the tilt of the waterline.
If you had been starting with the ‘before’ image, what things would you have done to improve it (aside from chucking it in the trash 🙂
