Hello,

I use Photoshop CS2 and have the following error:
"Disk error -108 occured while reading or writing to a scratch disk… Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable…"
Followed by "cannot handle your request because of a program error."

Can anyone help or has anyone the same problem?
I have put more memory in (1GB) and it takes longer before the error occurres, but it is still there!
Disk problem? Memory problem?

Thanks in advance,
Hans

First off…is there sufficient free space on the drive
you have assigned to scratch disk to? If the drive is full you can get that error.
Also…if there is free space…you can still get the error if the drive is fragmented…
so be sure to defragment the drive.

Finally…as
a good precaution:

If you do not already have it…
go to the website of your harddrive manufacturer and download their diagnostic utility.
The check your harddrive. If a problem is found…back up all your data at once
and replace the drive.

Also, even though they warn you about it at installation time, if you have your windows paging file and photoshop’s scratch disk on the same drive and begin to run a little low on space on that drive, they fight each other for usage of that space causing errors and general performance issues. All the memory in the world won’t really help you with that. 🙂

Though, to be on the safe side, a scandisk/defrag certainly couldn’t hurt anyways.
