I have never been satisfied with the way gaussian blur makes the image look. It never looks I a real, as when something is shot out of focus on a camera. Especially when you are combing a fake blur with a real out of focus shot. The new Lens Blur is better, but it does not work on cut out images. It leaves the edges hard. I have tried using lens blur, then also blurring the mask, but this does not work. Has anyone come up with a way to make a realistic blur?

Steve,

Make multiple layers of the image you are blurring… blur each more (or less) than the next duplicate layer. Use advanced masking and blending of each layer into the next to achieve something closer to the optical depth-of-field blur you’re after.
