Option 2:
Open wallet. If there is anything left after buying the Dell, upgrade to CS2, and say to your Dell "because you’re worth it!"
<g>
The Dell upgrade to CS2 requires that Photoshop 7 be installed on the machine. It’s a catch 22. I would not mind upgrading but if their literature is right, I would not be able to install the upgrade if I cannot install Photoshop 7
Follow bob levines advice. copy the cd to your hd then install from the hd.
And if memory serves, you do NOT need to have 7 installed for the CS2 upgrade. You just have to provide teh serial number or disk when it asks for it.
Chris,
You need a vacation bub. <grin>
YrbkMgr is right, you don’t need a previous version installed to install an upgrade. Just have the CD for the previous version available to insert during the process when asked.
I tried copying the install files to the HD. It did not make a difference. I have a suspicion that the windows installer on the original Photoshop 7.0 is to dated to work with XP. If I remember there was a major update to the windows installer. Other than that I do not have a clue. It sure would be nice if I could talk to Adobe tech support without paying $150 dollars. I bet they have a simple fix. Thanks for the info though. I will just have to keep plugging away and maybe spend the money on the upgrade.

you need to copy the whole photoshop folder from the disc to your hard drive then run the installer from there. also empty out your temp folders before rerunning. then restart in safe mode. turn off antivirus (if it loads in safe mode) and run the installer from your hard drive.
iirc, 7 doesn’t use the windows installer (msi) it uses installshield.
