I’m preparing a book cover in ID, and the image was prepared in PS and has a vignette that blends into the solid cover that is in the ID file.

When I place the PS image into the ID file, the solid color looks different. It also looks markedly different when I print it, although the CMYK values of the solid blue (in ID) and the vignette blend blue (in PS) are matched exactly.

I’m sure this is about matching color profiles, but I don’t know how to do this so that when I sent this file to the printer, the blues will match.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks much,

Susan

As I remember… ID will give you the option of working to the (placed) document profiles and the ID profile. Much will depend on the specifics of your set up. The best place to sort all this out is by reading Real World Color Management (Peachpit Press). A hard slog but worth it.

THANK YOU for answering this message! I was certain it was doomed to the unanswerable pile.

I’ll check out the book.

Susan, both apps have a color settings dialog just make sure they are set the same. they have the same interface so its easy to do.

photoshop color settings are under photoshop menu

and InDesign color settings are under the Edit menu.

just choose the same profile for both.

Thanks, I’ll try this and see if I can get it to happen.
