Grant,

What a lovely message and wonderful gifts. Thank you so much.

In the letter, Doreen talks about going to see Peter Tonje in concert. I have a CD by a Peter Togni who once was the morning host on CBC Radio Two. I’m curious if these are by some chance the same person?

Good eyes you have. I contacted Doreen and she said …. well it was a short word and then something about her woolly brain and then "change it please!" Second error so far, at this rate it should be completely corrected by the time I put next years up.

It’s a beautiful Christmas greeting. Did you do those paintings yourself?

If I did I would be wealthy enough to give every one a copy of CS and new dSLR and then take you all to Holland to have our group portrait taken by Leen.

It must be a Canadian thing to recognize The Group.

Grant, I guess. They were a big part of my upbringing. My mother owns that huge book with all those paintings ( worth big bucks now )…was on the bookshelf since I was real little. i always looked at the pictures in this book with great interest. They were kind of ‘Gods’ in our home. i wrote a paper on them in grade 8.

I must admit that I’ve never heard of The Group, so I’m really glad you posted the link to fill in that gap in my knowledge base!

Jodi

When I was much younger is spent a few years studding art with Robert Bateman and he instilled a love in me for Impressionists in general and the Group of Seven in particular.

Grant,

Rest assured I didn’t post that to point out a error! I just thought it was too much of a coincidence!

The CD I have is called Shimmeree, 12 jazz renditions of famous classic music works.

Dick

With a name like Togni, how could Tonje be wrong?

Funny thing about the Group of seven. many of them did quick postcard size paintings while on location. Lighting changes things so quickly that it was impossible to get the feel of a scene while painting for hours at a time. they would then take their dozens of post card size images back to the studio and paint an actual size painting from these little references.

Thank you Doreen and Grant for the holiday wishes. It sounds like great winter pastimes. Computers and weaving. I have tried my hand at weaving quite awhile ago – it was very enjoyable and I designed, cut and hooked a few wall hangings. (Of course computers are fun too).

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
