Hi Laurel,
had the same problem with Photoshop CS2 and the lens correction filter.
Today i have found the cause of the problem with the help of the program FileMon (www.sysinternals.com).
The filter tries to open a temporary file in the root directory of my scratch disk and because i do not work as an administrator on my windows box the program does not have the access permissions. I have changed the permissions for the scratch disk and now it works.
BTW. Adobe should fix this misbehaviour.
All filters and plugins should use the environment variable TEMP for locating their temporary files!
