usign Apple-T can you then Crop One side of the layer without squishing the image?

That’s Transform. You want the Crop tool, C.

right but that crops the whole image, im talking about the layer

With the target layer active, you want to select the area you want to retain, Inverse the selection, then Delete.

Making a Layer Mask to "crop" the layer in question gives you the option of undoing the crop that would be permanent using Delete.

Yes, but then Jonny2 would be masking, not cropping 🙂
