Mac crashed while saving a file and its now broken

I get an "end of file" message when trying to open it now…

What exactly does photoshop do with the file while saving – ?

If there is a way to recover the presumably deleted previous version then where might I find it – and can anyone tell me how to go about getting it back…

If you have not over-written it, there is just a possibility that Norton’s "UnErase" can discover an earlier version of the file on your HD. Make sure to do any recovery to a different disk.

The deal though with trying to recover trashed files is to make the attempt IMMEDIATELY. If you’re messing around reading and writing to the hard drive where the file was stored, you’ve likely corrupted it beyond reclamation.
