Print rasterization time 1 vs multi copies

Not understanding much about what PS or OS X does after I click print and send my image to my printer (epson2200) I’m wondering why it takes the system longer to que up one print of an image than making multiple copies of the same image. Why can’t the system/PS just create a loop and print the same image a set number of times?
