Can anyone confirm that the RAW files from the Nikon D70’s latest firmware version 2 are fully compatible with the Raw editor in CS2’s Bridge file browser/manager?

Thanks –

No issues here. Photoshop CS2 and D70 Firmware 2.0.

Ronald,

I’ve not seen any problem. NEF images using the new firmware look to open OK.

If you talking about the D70s. I am with you it does not work with CS and the RAW plugin. According to the support of CS2 and 3.1 it is not supported as of yet.

Where can one find the version number for RAW in CS2?

And, I’m a bit confused by the difference of opinions here. I’d like to understand what’s going on.

I too have had no issues with my D70 with the latest Firmware 2.0 NEF files (both with or without basic JPEG) and CS2 or with Adobe Bridge that is came with.

richjsn1,
It’s OK with RAW v2.4 on PS CS and RAW v3.0 on CS2.
Those are the only ones I’ve tried.

I should also add one little tidbit. Obtained from lots of trial and error.

I have found the best workflow is to open the .nef’s in a Nikon application, say Nikon Capture, first. Then, without editing, save the file in a .tif format to be edited in Photoshop. It seems the color balance/saturation is much better that way.

I don’t think the Adobe RAW performs an accurate file conversion from .nef’s to .psd’s.

It’s easy to see this for yourself: save the original .nef file as a .psd from Adobe RAW (no edits), then save another version from Nikon Capture as a .tif (again, no edits), then open these both in PS, side by side, and compare.

Hmmmmmm…seems like Nikon still has some secrets there…

Thanks Trevor. I had previously managed to get to the "About Plug-In, but looked only for "Raw", rather than "Camera Raw".

Oh well, just a short senior moment.

Adobe has really changed the whole HELP system around in CS2. Some of it I like. Other parts – are still undecided.
