file saving problems

I have a file in Photoshop Elements 2 that i am working on. I created several layers and want to save it as "save copy as" in the photoshop format. It will not let me save it as a photoshop file, when i click the save button it just sits there. If i try to save as a PICT file it saves fine. Any thoughts? Windows machine, running MX

Make sure that under Image > mode you are in RGB color not indexed color. That’s what mostly occurs to me .

Ah, will it do a Save As from PSD to PSD? I thought the purpose of Save As was to save to a different format while maintaining the original. ??? When I want to save an image that I’ve been working on with all layers intact I just do Image>Duplicate Image.

I can see where it may be overlooked as a favorite tip. With it’s prominent location in the image menu it practically slaps all but the dimmest of us in the face. LOL
