Baseline Shift & Text Padding Question

If you select text in PS, the selection area extends a certain amount above and below the actual text.

With the baseline shift set to the default “0” setting, how much space is selected above and below the actual text? Anyone know?

The amount is less on top than it is on the bottom, it appears. What are these spaces known as?
