CREATING ROUGH, WORN, ANTIQUE LOOK……HELP?

what is the best method of creating a rough, worn, antique texture to a surface using photoshop. i’ve developed some techniques involving actually scanning in real objects and using their texture, but this takes too long and isn’t as effective. any ideas? here are some examples <http://www.novemberkills.com/pictures/rough.jpg> of what I am looking for. thanks!

I looked at your link and still don’t quite understand what you’re trying to accomplish. Have you tried doing a Google search? There are some techniques listed for giving an aged appearance to photographs. Looking at some of the techniques might give you some ideas.

I haven’t seen anything that automatically antiques an image, I’m guessing that would probably be an Action for the full Photoshop.

These brushes called Grungette that can be found here < http://share.studio.adobe.com/axAssetDetailSubmit.asp?aID=84 61&back=http%3A%2F%2Fshare%2Estudio%2Eadobe%2Ecom%2FaxQu ickSearchSubmit%2Easp%3Ftxt%3Dgrungette%26allprods%3D2%26sub mit1%2Ex%3D33%26submit1%2Ey%3D5> at the Adobe Studio Exchange. It does look similar to what you are already creating yourself. If you haven’t already, you should make your own brushes from the objects you’ve scanned so you’ll have easy access to use them. Go to Edit > Define Brushes…name them and save yours. Use them on their own layer above the image you want to antique, choose whatever color you want and play with the opacity.

Scrapbook folks have antique appearing CD’s used with heritage photos. PC Crafter has 1 CD called "Remember When" at pccrafter.com in their hugware collection. It has backgrounds, ribbons, old lace that look aged in addition to lots of antique objects. I hope it helps! Kerry Tingley
