I’ve deleted my prefs files and I still have the same problem. Any help would be very appreciated.

So why is this "a problem"?

You’re right, this does seem to be a "feature".

Most of us are not bothered by this option, since there are normally no "extras" to show in a new image. This makes me wonder if the problem is the gray boxes in the upper left corner with the slice number "1". Although "Show Extras" will get rid of this temporarily, as you’ve discovered, you may also use "View"Show>Slices" to get rid of it once and for all.

You can also un-check some or all of the items under "View>Show>Show Extras Options …" to reduce the clutter.

The problem is that I can’t temporarily turn it off. I only use Extras in rare occasions.

I’m not sure what you’re thinking Extras are, but they include the "marching ants" border of the marquee tool, something that I cannot even imagine working without.

You can disable them temporarily with ctrl/cmd-H, or go to View>Show>Show Extras Option and turning off completely anything you don’t normally need, like slices. Do so with no document open and exit afterwards to set it as default.

How do you figure that? Everything looks ok from my end.

Never mind. I have an asshole here at work who decided to play a "prank" by changing my time from am to pm. Good one Carl. Very cool.

Finally got it fixed. I had to uninstall PS7, remove all instances in the registry and then re-install. When I created a new document, when I did my original post, the "Extras" I saw was everything turned on. I saw slices, marquee’s, grids, etc…. Made for a very cluttered screen. I also had a problem with my brushes. With every new doc the brushes always defaulted to Dual Brush and Color Dynamics, with no way to uncheck them and have that be default.

Thanks for the all the help and suggestions.
