Jodi suggested this tutorial to me when I asked her about a plugin I was ready to buy : http://photoshopgurus.info/beginners/spirographs.shtml
It’s for creating a Spirograph like design. It’s fully functionnal for Photoshop Elements (2 at least).

When the tutorial talks about the "Numeric Transform", you have to look at the option bar, and
locate the "set rotation angle" box (the one with a triangle to its left)

Here are some variations :

Thanks a lot Jodi !! It was sure fun (and it only took 5 minutes)

Hi Ray and Jodi, I was trying to find the animated gifs that Barbara did last year, they were really really neat.
If you have her web site, the one for these, please send it to me. This looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the tutorial, I think I might try one.

Years ago I had some software that one of my kids brought home from college that worked like this, it generated spirograph-like figures constantly moving. I think her math teacher gave it to her. It was so neat! Called "Diatom" I think. It won’t work on the new Mac OS (I tried it on OS 6 too)at all, so it is down cellar with our old b+w antique Mac.
Fun stuff,,,,,,

Hi again,

Here’s an applet that will do Spirograph for you. A friend of mine found it on the web this morning.

Now, with a little imagination, one can extract the design and put it in Photoshop Elements :

Tried this one

It is better to make them ourselves with PSE and not rely on other software, that is the creative part.
But this little program is fun.

It’s for Mac only.. 🙁

(but I’m happy for Mac owner, for once, they got something Windows doesn’t, as opposed to the usual contrary…)

Hi Jane,

There are two animated spirographs in my <http://www.pbase.com/imacbarb/barbs_animation_gallery> gallery over at PBase.

Hi Barb, Wow! These are awesome. I would love to be able to do some like this. Looks like you have added lots of new ones, weren’t you on Earthlink before?

I wish there was a way for all of you experts with web pages and pbase pages to post your URLs somewhere here, or on Grant’s links page, so that we beginners can look at the good stuff, and remember where it is(have them all together).

Did you do these with PSE or Photoshop, they are wonderful! Thanks, Jane

Jane, I think Grant’s already done this… Check in the Links section (if I remember correctly)

Jane, thanks! They used to be on my Earthlink address, ,that was a huge mistake. I was receiving more "adult" oriented spam than you could imagine. That address was shut down along with the old site and off to PBase they went, plus you can’t beat how easy it is to upload over there. They were all created using PSE2. I have to get back to creating more, so little time , so much to do! 😉

My website links and a whole bunch of my other favorite URL’s are under my login name "imacgirl" if you click on it here. Grant also has them listed on the "Contacts" page of the Challenge.

Edit: Jane, I forgot to tell you how to put links under your name here, go to Preferences>Personal Information at the top of this page to add whatever you’d like. I also like the new forum feature of the latest posts by each author, a great addition Adobe!

Thanks Barb, I forgot about Grant’s contacts. Links here too.

Ever think of doing a tutorial for these here for us?
The link Ray sent us is good, but I need more detailed instructions, as a beginner.

I am having a time crisis too, but winter is coming with all its bad weather and I don’t ski any more. I PSE instead, (that’s easier on my bad knee).

I have spent 4 hours today on PSE and all this fun stuff, only raked half the lawn and now we must clip our dog,,,,,,,,Should have done the whole lawn and had the dog completed.

Jane,

The PSE 2 Help Menu has a very good tutorial on how to create animated GIF’s. Do a Search and enter this: Animate with Layers. It’s definitely much more concise than anything I could write, plus it’s animated and shows the layers. 😉

Thanks Barb, I do forget about the Help Menu, and they have good tutorials. Your pictures are so great, I called my husband in here to see them and he was really impressed,
Just need more time for all this fun stuff,,,,,,
