More coming,,,,,, < http://www.pbase.com/jcarter/five_islands_maine_100_years_is _our_house> I love these digital cameras, I am a lousy photographer, and the camera makes it seem that I am better than I am. But I sure am learning. Haven’t had time to Photoshop these or even crop them, but wanted to get them up on the web quickly. Our family is expanding rapidly with babies and puppies. I gotta keep up with the photos, it is so nice to have pbase, so our widespread family can view and download which ones they want. Next project is a web site,,, need more time for everything, don’t we all, Jane
Hi Lorace, What I mean is that Pbase is so easy to use, so cheap, so fun(customize), and that anybody with web acess can view the pictures anywhere, that it has delayed me from the chore of making my own website. Jane
I don’t use pbase <http://www.pbase.com> so I’m not an expert but I believe it’s just a web site/service that allows you to upload and create image galleries with your digital photos.
Joe
EDIT: I’m jealous Jane. I have only been there once but I loved Maine and really want to go back. Must be nice to wake up to that view every AM. 🙂 That’s what I call living well.
Hi Jane, I am a little behind in reading the forums. I loved your pictures. I was just looking at the Pbase myself today and it really does look like a great way to show your photographs. I never heard of it before – but I have noted that some people on this forum use it. It’s a good idea.
Jane, welcome home ! Your pictures remind me that it has been a long, long, long ,long time since i have been anywhere outside this State. I never made it up to my Mom’s house in Quebec like i had planned ( car trouble ) and I really need a break. Realizing my life was way TOO easy before kids…. < long sigh > …your pics are great ! It’s the place to be in the summer/late summer…after the crowds.
Jane, the pictures are magnificent. I can feel my blood pressure falling when I immerse myself in that beautiful scenery. I haven’t been to Maine since 1969 or thereabouts; needless to say, a visit is long overdue. Thanks for sharing your world with us!
That is one of my favorites as well. "Aspen Lane" is another favorite, in fact it was in the online edition of Denver Post today. http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,0,36%7E28497%7E1651385,0 0.html I am glad you enjoyed the shots and I look forward to learning much more from this forum.
Thank you very much. Post-processing is a blessing for beginners. We had a front come through a few hours ago and roughly 60% of the leaves are now on the ground.
Thank you. We moved here from South Louisiana, about 2 miles from a Bay. I enjoy spring, summer and fall and think about moving in the winter. Maybe one day we can retire and become "snowbirds".
Janes and Jane, It’s really nice to peek in on your galleries. I’m so busy these days but do enjoy my evenings looking at everyone’s pictures. I just got a dilly of a picture so will try my darndest to get it on pbase. Marty
Hi Bob, Yes they were headed North East. We have noticed that the birds do fly along the shore here and when they get inland then they veer off in their intended direction. Have also noticed that when the Ospreys start south, they seem to fly along the coast for a while first NE too. When my brother is out in his boat he sees hundreds of them on their way.
Somewhere in my boxes of pictures, I have a snapshot of a little green bird sitting on top of a co-worker’s hat! We were out near Bermuda on a research ship, and flocks of the little green thingies flew towards the ship, and I guess they must have been exhausted and thirsty, as they landed on the deck and drank the fresh water that the scientists had sprayed on some of the equipment. They were all over the deck, and us, for about 2 hours. No fear of us at all. But they wouldn’t eat anything. We wondered if they had been blown off shore by a storm. Jane
Jane, Great pictures. I was on Cape Cod yesterday and saw the sun rise over the horizon and before I could get dressed to go out and get a picture it clouded up. No cigar. Jodi, how is that new camera working for you? Ken
Oh, Very well fed Ospreys. I will bet they are in Georgia already. The ones in Maine(you can see one nest in the trees on that island across from the house) feed in the shallow bay behind us, so we never see them actually catch, just carrying their food. But the ospreys here on Cape Cod get the small flounder at low tide constantly, I love to watch them swoop down and grab the fish. Wonderful birds they are.
"The Birds", saw that one a long time ago, neat movie.
Here on Cape Cod, we face the West, sort of backwards, <http://www.pbase.com/image/16932302> Sunsets here are wonderful, actually I was out walking the dog and this morning we had a pretty good orange sunrise, I can only see it over the trees here reflecting on the clouds. October is a beautiful month,,,,,,, Jane
That aerial picture showing where you live is really cool . Terra Server? Nice idea!
Pete
(For anyone that is not familiar with it; Terra Server is a site containing aerial pictures from all over the USA. You can "zero" in on just about anywhere in the states. See your house from above. http://terraserver-usa.com/
This has nothing to do with pictures of Maine (hope you don’t mind Jane) but here is a picture of a giraffe eating a cracker. I had no idea how long their tongues were 🙂
Great picture, Pete, I love to see all sorts of neat pictures, especially with animals and birds. I subscribe to a nice magazine called "Birds and Blooms", great flower pictures and all sorts of gardening hints in it too.
Actually this one isn’t from Terraserver, our part of Terraserver is blocked out, maybe because we are right next to Otis AFB, so I got this picture from "Spaceshots". It is a big poster sized photo on our kitchen wall, and I scanned our part of Cape Cod.
<http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/> I get weekly e-mail from this site with all sorts of neat pictures. Here is one of where we used to live, I use it sometimes for my desktop pattern. <http://www.pbase.com/image/13899566> I downloaded the hi-rez one, and wow, I can see so much! Neat stuff, I am getting OT again, but its fun. Jane
Pete : With a tongue like that, when a Giraffe goes to the dairy counter, it must order a cone with… 17 scoops, for her treat to last at least 2 minutes! 😉
