How to change rainbow background to white?

The background of this UPC code should be white:
http://mysite.verizon.net/verizon_account/9500_scan_back.jpg

As you can see, it is unfortunately rainbow colored, artifacts introduced by reflections off the glass of my crappy scanner. Is there any easy way to whiten the kalidescope background?

The quickest way IMO is to use Levels.
Image > Ajust > Levels
Drag the right-hand slider over towards the left a bit and all your coloured artifacts should disappear.

You may find that you lose clarity of the text, though; if this is the case, duplicate the layer and set the new one to Multiply and play with the opacity.
