I have recently installed CS2 , activation went fine no problems.but now then i start CS2 itsa seems the icons on the (window) menu are displaying correctly ,theu just appears as blank boxes.

also i click on the registration dialog and that is all blank.

am at wits end…..

even the zoom buttons are missing text. after some time they will appear, whats going on

can fix it by openning a document and cliing it, that seems to cause the missing bits to load and become visible.

It could be a corrupt installation, a bad video card driver, or a very corrupt system.

From your description, it sounds like a video driver problem.

What is your CPU, speed, RAM, pagefile size, video card and RAM, video driver, etc.?

Its a dell lattitude x300 laptop

Windows XP PRo SP2
Pentium Mobile 1.4Ghz
640Mb RAM
1.5gb Pagefile
Intel 852/855 GM/GME Graphics controller 64mb(6.14.10.4020) Direct X 9

This happens with both the retail release and the tryout.

The activation dialog box is missing text and also missing button text thru the program. after opening and closing a document the missing text and corrupt icons are magically fixed !!!!

Time to got back to the original CS.

Definitely sounds like a video driver problem, Andrew.

As a diagnostic, try turning down hardware acceleration to zero. If that helps, a bad driver is confirmed and you will need to find an update.

Well i tried all you suggested and it doesnt appear to be a gfx driver issue.

currently running just the vga driver and it exhibits the same problem.

this is silly i cant be the only person with this problem.

would hate to have to clean build this laptop just to get cs2 to work correctly..

answers on a postcard to……………

EDIT: if i open a document this seems to fix the problem. whats with this !!!!!!!

You’re not the only one! I have the exact same problem running it on a brand new DELL Dimension 8400 with 2Gb RAM and a ATI Radeon x850 256Mb GFX card.

I’ve also tried installing it on my laptop, a DELL Inspiron 8600 with 1Gb RAM and a GeForce FX5200 GO.

Both computers run Windows XP Professional with SP2 and all the latest patches from Windows Update. GFX drivers are also the latest ones for both machines.

Seems like our only common denominator (besides CS2) is DELL computers. But they have completely different configurations so that can hardly be it either.

Could DVI have something to do with this?
All laptops use DVI and so does my Dimension 8400.
Not sure if it helps, but just for fun try and hook up your laptop to an external monitor and see if the problem persists.
Please let me know what happens.

I have the exact same problem you have.
I’m using a brand new DELL Dimension 8400 with 2Gb of RAM and a ATI X850XT graphic board running Windows XP SP2.

I’ve also tried installing it on my laptop, a DELL Inspiron 8600, and same thing happens there.

Both computers have the latest drivers and all the latest patches.

Could this have anything to do with DVI? Sounds weird but that is the only common denominator we seem to have except our computers being DELL. 🙂

I’m having exactly the same problem. CS2 tryout and retail with missing text on dialogue boxes etc. I’ve tried about 10 different driver versions for my Nvidia GeForce 5700FX but no success.

if cs2 runs fine after rebuilding your laptop, it means that YOUR SYSTEM was flakey not CS2. that’s bad logic you’ve got there, old bean. 🙂

Well I’ve got the same problem, help and picture bridge don’t work either, i’ve installed the software on a HP/Compaq 530 and a Dell GX270 with the same results, i’ve updated the drivers on the HP, but the Dell is a fresh XP Pro SP2 build and dosn’t have any other software on it yet.

Had the same problem. On my system it was the McAfee antivirus causing the text to disappear. (buffer overflow feature in v8.0i)

Did you disable the
buffer overflow protection or remove 8.0I and put 7 back on or what ?

First I disabled the buffer overflow protection to get the text back. After finding out that the problem was this protection I checked for a newer version of 8.0. and found version 8 patch 10 (I had patch 1) that workes ok with the overflow protection on. (McAfee enterprise version)
