In PS6, clicking New Brush in the Brush palette triangle drop down menu used to bring up a dialog box with a pic of a brush and sliders controls to adjust width, depth, hardness, everything.

In PS7, clicking New Brush just opens the Brush Name dialog box and all you can do is enter the brush name and nothing else. How do I adjust the new brush to whatever size and hardness I want, for example, a thin calligraphic brush at a certain width and angle?

2solutions:
1) option + click on your picture
2) clicking the menu icon in the option bar and got to "brush tip shape"

Thanks for trying to help.

Your solution #1 (with brush tool selected, option click picture) brings up the thumbnailed list of brushes but not a brush shape/dimensions dialog box.

I don’t know what/where the menu icon or option bar is – can you explain?

Try Control + Click to get the brush size/hardness adjustment dialog box.

Hi!
You do get a brush size slider with 1)
For 2)
The option bar is located under the menu bar. If you see nothing, go to Windows>Option bar. The icon I speak about is the rightmost one, just before the palette well.

A third solution is to look for the brushes palette (windows>brushes)

You should read the "getting started" part of your user guide… search also for "brush tip shape", "option bar"

Look also at <http://www.arraich.com/ps6_tips_7brushes1.htm>

Also, if you use the square brackets keys, you can also change the brush size and Shift+Square brackets lets you change its hardness.

That’s why reading the ‘what’s new’ and ‘getting started’ parts of the user guide is useful 😉
