I wonder if you PS gurus out there could set me on the right course — I’ve endlessly played with various PS features to solve this problem and gotten no where:

I like to combine the following two NASA maps of earth temperature — the one shows land temperature and the other sea temperature:

http://neo.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/Search.html?group=19
http://neo.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/Search.html?group=30

Selecting the colored areas of one and dropping it onto the other is simple. The problem is that they use two different ranges to indicate temperature — e.g. the sea temperature range includes green which is not found on the land temperature range. I’d like to have one color range. Since the land range is wider than the sea range (-25 to 45 verses -2 to 45) it would make sense to line up the two color range legends and replace the colors in the sea map with the corresponding colors in the land map. Beats me how to do so. Messed with replace color, hue/sat, etc. I’m using PS7 but I do have access to CS. Any suggestions on how to approach this would be appreciated.

Look into gradient mapping under Image>Adjust.
