I don’t want to crop the canvas, and I don’t want to squish (distort) the object to get it to the size I want… I want to say remove the top part of the object in the layer – without effecting the rest of it. I can’t figure out how to do this!
Thanks
Dave

Use any marquee selection and hit delete.

If you want something less destructive use a layer mask.

Oh – Maybe the only windows like function in Photoshop – no wonder I missed it!

Thanks for the help

Another way is to rough select your item with any selection tool then, while selected, hit [Ctrl. + J] and put the cut area on it’s own layer. Then use an eraser, quick mask, or layer mask to finesse the selection later.
