Hi Guys,

Check out this article:

http://www.agavegroup.com/?p=68

It instructs the reader on how to create a curved line with some weight in Photoshop with the Pen Tool. However using this process, modifying the path doesn’t result in any dynamic update (like it would in Paint Shop Pro.) Needless to say this is very annoying. Does anyone know a way to overcome this?

in that tutorial he doesn’t stroke the path
he does it on a layer above
if you make the stroke on the path itself it will auto update

Hi,

Thanks for you’re reply. I’m using Photoshop CS3. I tried applying a stoke to the path but when I move the path it still doesn’t update. I’d really like to know how to do this, would you show me?

You can’t. Creating a pixel-based stroke from a Pen path is permanent; you can not stroke a path in Photoshop and ave the stroke change when you change the path.

That’s terrible! It seems to be Adobe have more or less seperated raster graphics editing (Photoshop) from vector graphics editing (Illustrator) which bugs me no end because using Paint Shop Pro you can do both in one program. Is there any easy way of using both raster and vector capabilities? Doesn’t this bug you?

It doesn’t bug me, because raster and vector graphics are so different that apps that try to do both generally fall short of the bar. Paint Shop Pro is fine for hobbyist use, but it’s not up tot he task of professional prepress use–which is where I work. I don’t want my vector and raster programs in the same app, because it’s been my experience that programs that try to do both don’t really excel at either.
