Photoshop 7 suddenly crashes in start-up

I’ve been using Photoshop 7 for years on my Windows XP PC and suddenly tonight it starts crashing while starting up. It gets to lodaing TWAIN menu and Initializing, and now crashes. What happened?

start by resetting your prefrences as described in the FAQ section.

It can happen if you shut down the machine without first closing Photoshop, it can happen with an abnormal termination of Photoshop, and sometimes it can happen for no apparent reason.

One could ask the same question about a flu or a problem with the car… Why? Because!
