A friend with macular degneration is an excellent photographer and he wishes to take advantage of PS8’s RAW image processing ability. Although legally blind, he uses PS8 on a 22" monitor set to 800×600 resolution with some success. PS is running on Windows XP Pro SP1.

When the the camera raw image dialog box opens in 800×600 display resolution, its content is truncated vertically along the right edge of the window. The OK and Cancel buttons are half missing, as are the tabs below. Roughly the right 20% of the window appears to lie, invisible, outside the window frame.

An attempt to resize the window fails. When the upper left corner is clicked with intent to drag to a smaller window, the window pops toward the lower right, moving about 20% of the way accross the screen. No resizing occurs. The window can be dragged back to its original position.

There are no problems, so far, with the rest of PS8 running at 800×600. Is there a cure for this RAW-image window problem?

There are several dialogs (such as the raw import dialog) that do not fit in an 800×600 display area because they are defined as 700 pixels tall.

This is why the system requirements for PSCS specify 1024×768.

There’s nothing you can do I’m afraid. You cannot resize modal windows, whatever you do. Normally, under Windows you can do ALT+SPACE (to bring up the control box for that dialogue) and then press M for move. Using the arrow keys you can nudge the active window (even a modal one) upwards until you can see the missing controls. But as usual Adobe ignores the "common" UI features of Windows and doesn’t bother to add control boxes to its modal dialogues. Stupid really.

Thanks for the "Heads-Up" on Powerstrip. Never heard of it, before. But, it did solve a problem I was having, with my dual-monitor setup, where one was showing whites, with a yellow cast, while the other looked more like a pure white.

These monitors, an old pair of Sony Multiscan 300SF’s, are being driven by an Nvidea GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE, dual-port video card

Powerstrip let me balance the appearance of the two displays, so the colors appear even, across the screens, very easily.

Thanks.

There is a utility called Powerstrip that allows you to customise an awful lot of the graphics capabilities of your display card.
It might be possible to create a custom display setting of maybe 800 x 700 which would allow your friend to see the entirety of the dialog screen Quote from pc world download site

"PowerStrip v3.49

Access your graphics board directly from your system tray with this handy utility. PowerStrip offers a variety of features, including desktop size and calibration controls, custom display settings, system diagnostics, font controls, customizable hotkeys, and on-the-fly color depth. PowerStrip also has direct hardware support for many chips, allowing you to control your display sub-system. This version has been updated to support newer graphics cards."

Hope this helps
