Has anybody been successful in updating the CS2:
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb07-13.ht ml

I tried on one Win2000 computer and got several error messages about missing msvcr80.dll during the startup of CS2.

If you google for "msvcr80.dll" you can find plenty of links to download a copy. It seems a common issue. Just copy the file to
c:\windows\system32\ and try again. You should be fine.

Thank you SpaceGirl, I have found it already from a far more secure location than that. But have not tried it yet.

It seems a common issue.

From where do you draw that conclusion? Where could I read more about it? I found nothing relevant using Google search:
"msvcr80.dll" security photoshop OR CS2

Just copy the file to c:\windows\system32\ and try again. You should be fine.

Possibly so. But I do not manage my computers like that (and at work I may not, due to the company security policy).

I’m wondering why is it that on the security update page Adobe says nothing about the msvcr80.dll issue. Nor have they included the dll to the CS2 update zip.

Yeah, just download a random DLL from some unknown website and dump it in your system folder (nice that you didn’t even advise a virus scan!) that’s the way to complete a SECURITY update…

Are you normally as full of stupid advice as you were today or was this a banner day for you?

It does not go into system32 folder, but stays within the application folder. Should get installed with "what ever" application its used ,if necessary. (In other words its not a common file.) This is not necessarily just Adobe programmes that use this file either.

Most likely it is missing from the folder
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2

Having said that, I do not think it was used for any CS2 programs, and maybe an error introduced by Adobe as its used with all the CS3 programs.

Have a search for the file on your computer, copy&paste it over from another location. You will find several copies on your HDD. The file should be 612K.

Your issue

* For CS2: BMP & TARGA: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\File Formats; PNG: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\Adobe Photoshop Only\File Formats

# Move the existing plug-ins to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep these original versions in case you need to revert back.
# Copy the BMP, PNG, and Targa plug-ins from the download into the same folder as in Step 3.

This should not warrant the use of the msvcr80.dll file.

So what happened when you reverted back to the original files did the error go away??

Yes, the errors went a way. With the updated files in place there was one error dialog per each file during the startup of CS2. I did not try opening/saving graphic files that would have had used the updated files.

Timo, hi, yes I did it in CS2. It worked fine for me. No error messages like you describe. But on my system the runtime library you say caused you problems after the CS2 update, mine is version 8.0.50727.163 dated 6/5/06. Maybe yours didn’t update? I’m pretty sure this recent version on my system was part of a Microsoft Update in the last year.

Obtw Timo, I want to thank you for the great job you did with the AIM XL Profiler. I was using LCMS profiler for years with not very good results. I purchased IT 8.7 targets from Wolf Faust & was trying to build custom color profiles using LCMS with Wolf’s targets. Just never worked very well, always resulted in buggy color profiles. But my friend & I were able to build very high quality color profiles using your AIM XL Profiler in about an hour. The results are excellent. I posted a few shots I took from a Polaroid X530 digital camera. I used UFRAW to apply the AIM generated color profiles. Check these out:

This is the camera I used to take these: http://tinyurl.com/2ysjbp

My friend has a Sigma SD-10. We made a profile for it too using AIM XL Profiler. My friend is not as good a photographer as I am (my modesty, I apologize, lol) so here are a couple of shots he took with his SD-10:

The SD-10 I believe is the first of the Sigma cameras with the Foveon X3 sensor. Sigma is up to SD-14 now:

Anyway Timo, I digress. Again thanks for the excellent color profiling utility & keep up the great work.
