Using Edit/Stroke for borders

Resize the canvas (>Image>Resize>Canvas Size), then >Select All and >Edit>Stroke (inside).

How big is the canvas your image is on? If you don’t have any additional space beyond what the image is consuming, there won’t be any room to add a border outside the image. Go to Image>Resize>Canvas Size and increase the size of the canvas. Now, when you set your Stroke to Outside, there will be someplace for it to go.

How does it go? …great minds think alike… (almost).
I figured Marty could increase the canvas by the amount of pixels he was going to use for the border(s). That’s why i suggested to stroke to the inside.
But your version works just as well.
