I took some digitals last night in a club that was using tungsten lighting over the stage. Of course they are all on the yellowish side (yes I know I should have white balanced).

What is the easiest way to correct this?

I have tried switching modes to Lab and using the Curves to take out some yellow. This works ok but I was wondering if there is a better way.

Thanks

Go into Curves and use the grey eyedropper. Tweak as needed.

You can use the black or white eyedropper too, if you like, but the grey will do the best color-balancing, and is virtually the same as white- balancing the camera on location.

Would these solutions (and this one in particular work with color negatives, or is there a better solution for color negs? Thanks. peter Cowie

The attached is a screenshot for the Curves/Options dialogue box that pops up- as suggested by Ben Willmore. You can also dig a little deeper by double-clicking the eyedroppers. First the White and enter R=245, B=245, G=245. Then double-click the Black dropper and put equal values of 26 or
51
(this value varies for me depending upon my expected outcome- please experiment for yourself) in the RGB windows. And for the Gray dropper,
have
equal values of 128 in the RGB windows. There’s lot’s of variations in
these
settings, so do experiment.
………………………………………..the Curves to take out some
yellow. This works ok but I was wondering if there is a better way.
Thanks

Download Paint Shop Pro 8 http://www.jasc.com and use its Black & White Points (Adjust > Color Balance > Black and White Points), which does an excellent job. Since you have a whole batch of images you can fix one photo and record that fix to a script file, and then run that script in batch mode on all of the photos to make it a couple of mintues job.

Take care,
Linda.

Dear dig

The solution for powerful filtering is a menu >image> correction selective>
In your work select a Yellow after action on cursor yellow minus your problem is solved.

Good work

Because Levels is easier than Curves to use and scares fewer users. Curves doesn’t scare me I just don’t like it. Way too easy to clear up a problem while creating others you might not notice right off. I have very seldom found a time that levels wouldn’t fix what I needed. Depending on how bad the yellow color cast is levels may fix it. Super strong ones it will only lessen. You need to use Hue/Saturation set to yellow and then dial down the saturation to a negative number. This will remove the yellow without messing the other colors up. Then run auto color or auto levels or run just plain levels with your own manual settings.

Kingdom,

What is the difference between Levels and Curves?

Why try Levels first, then in a later step try Curves?
