I need to draw a 1.25" solid black circle with a white dot at the exact center.

I can get the black circle but how do I find dead center? Grid isn’t helping me?

Thanks

Brian

Grid can help you. If you draw the circle while holding the ALT and SHIFT keys, you draw the circle from its centre. So start on an intersection of the grid, and you’ll have your centre marked by the grid.

Assuming you’re working at 100 DPI resolution, this explanation will work a treat. You can adjust your measurements depending on your resolution.

So, open a new photoshop document, 100 dpi resolution, sizd 1.25" x 1.25", and give it a flat white background.

Now, select the eliptical Marque tool and place your cursor in the top left corner of the document.
Press and hold down the shift key, then drag out your circular mask to until the edges touch the edges of the document.

Now use the fill tool to flood this area with black.

Now go to Select > Modify > Contract.
Select a figure of between 55 and 60, depending on how big you want your centre dot to be, then hit enter.

This will give you a tiny little selection mask in the exact centre of your black circle.
Just use your fill tool to flood this with white.

You should be left with an image just like this.

Hope this helps.

make the dot first? then starting at the dot, draw the black circle from center (in the dropdown options) on a layer below the white dot layer

Hi Brian,

To locate the center of a circle, or other object, after it has been created, activate the layer containing the object, and make sure View>Snap has a check mark next to it. Then drag a guide from the ruler, and it will snap to the center of your circle. This works for selections as well as objects.

EZ way. Ctrl-T will give you the Transform box with the "hub" at the exact center. You can drag guides to it.

If you’re just trying to line up 2 circles in the center, why not create the two different circles on their Layers. Cut/Paste the first circle into it’s Layer and then Cut/Paste the other circle into it’s layer. This way they are perfectly centered on their respective layers and each other.
