I’ve run into a rather interesting behaviour in Photoshop CS that I can’t explain, so I think it might be a bug, but maybe someone can shed some light on this.
When creating a layer with a gradient overlay and setting the blend mode of the overlay to Hard Mix, after saving the file, closing it and then opening it again, the blend mode has changed from Hard Mix to Normal.
I tried all of the other blend modes to check if the same thing happened, and none of the others exhibits this behaviour.
At first I thought that this might be caused by having "Maximize Compatibility" enabled, but I tried saving the file without it enabled and the same thing still happens.
To replicate the problem all I have to do is create a new file (with background contents transparent), add something to Layer 1 (e.g. make a rectangular selection and fill it with a colour), then add the gradient overlay to Layer 1 and set the gradient overlay’s blend mode to Hard Mix. Save the file, close it, and then open the file again, and now the blend mode of the gradient overlay is reset to Normal. Any other blend mode, and this doesn’t happen.
Any ideas? Is this some strange behaviour for the sake of compability that I can disable?
