Updating placed files?

In PS7, placed .ai files are rasterized and there seems no way to update them (like edited files Can be updated when placed in InDesign).
Is this correct?
Is it possible in PhotoshopCS?
It would be a cool feature

No, once placed in Photoshop there is no reference back to the original file whatsoever
