I am using PS 7 on a WinXP-Pro machine.
About a year ago, I created a large PSD file in PS 7. The file is almost a gigabyte in size and was a large-sized print project.
I eventually moved the file off my computer and onto another computer on my workplace network. I recently had to update the file so I dragged it back onto my computer through the network.
Now when I try to open the file in PS 7, it gets about half-way through opening and then an error message appears stating that this file isn’t compatible with my version of PS. It was created in PS 7 and now PS 7 is saying this PS 7 file isn’t compatible with my PS 7.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my PS 7 to open this file?

PS7 allowed you to create documents larger than the allowed limits of 30000 pixels in any direction and 2 gig file-size in memory. It would save these files but there is no way to re-open them. It sounds as though this may apply in your case.

Or the file was just corrupted in the network copies….

I’m having a similar issue, only my problem lies with a hard drive failure and a data recovery "specialist". I am trying to open up relatively small files (2-4 megs) for some web projects and unfortunately I am receiving the same error message. How can I fix this? Is there anyway to recover these files?

John,

Doubtful. In some cases even if the file can’t fully be recovered it is possible to read the flattened data if they were saved with compatibility enabled. Try using a viewer like ACDSee or Infranview.
