This seemed obvious to me when I thought to do it, but I’m not having any success. I have a black and white line drawing and want to select all the ‘black’ and change it to another color, and perhaps do the same with the white as well. I can select all the black, but can’t seem to figure out how to change the color of my selection…

Any help would be greatly appreciated…

add a hue/saturation adjustment layer and check the colorize box. turning up the lightness slider a bit will enable you to manipulate the black with the hue and sat. sliders.

After selecting the black, Edit > Fill with foreground (set to red)

Nanner,

A Third way of doing it.

From the levels palette set the OUTPUT shadow slider toward the centre so the black becomes grey. Then use Hue/Saturation to colourize to suit

Nobody stated the obvious. Your file might not be in a colour mode.

MENU -> Image -> Mode -> RGB Color

Sorry about the spelling – not my fault
