When I try to save a TIFF file in Photoshop 8.0 for Windows XP via File > Save As I do not have a JPEG choice. I did try the JPEG2000 Plug-In but did not get a picture that would open as universally as a jpg file would be.

I am not a novice at this, nor am I an expert. After I resize the image I use another photo program to change from tiff format to get jpg but this really should not be necessary.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Is your TIFF in 16 bit mode perhaps?

Mac, You are exaclly correct. My TIFF is in 16 bit mode. It sounds like you may be able to help me. I take photographs and I want to maintain maximum detail and editing capability. It is rare for me to want to send photos through e-mail but that is what I am doing when I am converting to JPEG.

change the mode to 8 bit before doing save as… or use file> save for web.

JPEG doesn’t support 16 bit/channel, and JPEG2000 is a completely different file format from JPEG.
