I also have PS CS installed on my PC. Perhaps, because *.psd files are set to open with PS CS, that is the reason they won’t open in PS CS2. I don’t want to uninstall PS CS yet – so how do I go into that app and deselect it as the app to open *.psd files? Thanks……..
I would doubt that the installation of both CS & CS2 would cause a conflict. It’s fairly common practice to keep an older ver on a machine, until one is comfortable with the new installation, and that it works well. I had both, plus v7 and v4 on the same box with no ill effects. Other than copying my plug-ins to each ver (where they would work – plus same for some brushes, actions, etc.) there was nothing different with the installations.
Have you attempted to Open the files from WinExplorer/My Computer? Personally, I always use Windows Explorer out of habit, so don’t know how it might differ from My Computer, other than in the View setup initially. Navigate to the folder with the file(s) in question. Right click on it/them, and go to Properties. Check out what that dialog box says. Try double-clicking on one of the files. Try Open With (CS2) on one of the files. In the Tools dropdown, you should see a Tab for Files and you want to see what associations (programs) are listed for that type of file. NOTE: Exact wording is probably different than what I just wrote, as I’m going from memory and don’t really look carefully ’cause I just go to where I need to go – sorry.
One question that I don’t recall seeing asked or answered: can you create a PSD in CS2, Save, then re-Open it? Does that work?
Did you have any problems with the installation of CS2? Is it Activated/ Registered? If not, how long ago did you install it?
Good luck,
Hunt
