Nice of you to go to the trouble, Dave, considering the tone of his reply.

Thanks Scott:-) He’s obviously a vulture. A troll without even the decency to say thanks; the kind you will not see here unless he is in need. Maybe we should remember him

I assure this this particular person is not a jerk. It’s the nature of the beast. Most of the help here gets no reaction whatsoever. The one person in 10 or 20 who says thanks is the compensation.

So Mike, you reckon he’s simply the (uncivilized) standard. Afraid I must aggree:-)

It’s more than the behavior of a particular person. It’s the group. Although this group is valuable to some, this is no longer the greatest place to seek help for Photoshop. For one thing, it is impossible to post a message with an image. Of course, you are also correct about the "civilized standard". The trolls and flames degrade this group significantly. There are a number of people who parasitize the group, and enjoy the response when they upset and anger people. It is difficult not to amplify the problem by responding in kind.

Due in part to the lack of images and the flaming, the vast majority of Photoshop and photography discussion has moved from Usenet to other forums, such as www.retouchpro.com,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/photoshop_elements/, and www.flickr.com . There is also the curvemeister yahoo group at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/curvemeister/ .

These are all mediated, and the tone is enthusiastic, helpful, and polite. New people are welcomed warmly, instead of being flamed. Nasty ones cannot thrive, as they do in Usenet, and simply disappear along with their posts. I recommend that anyone who uses this group as their primary source of Photoshop visit these sites, and others like them, if your bandwidth permits.

Meantime, a.g.p is still a going concern. Learn to configure your news reader to ignore the chaff, and use your killfile, and this group will probably keep going indefinitely.

true what you are saying, but this group is much much more valuable then what you said. We know each other by now, and there is so many people here with a treasure chest of knowledge always prepared to share it with the people in need therefore. People like yourself, edjh, tacit, Johan W Elzenga, the Katwoman (I’d love to see her gallery) , Hunt, Scott Glasgow and so many more (I am only mentioning names that I can think of now, and I know it is risky because there is many more:-)

Don’t misjudge the value of this ng, Mike. I have a few books on PS under which the CS2 Classroom in a Book and Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Photographers by Martin Evening, and still love to get my answers here. Maybe there is more atmosphere here:-)

I agree. This group is a rather rough and tumble resource. People who value that, like ourselves, will be here a long time. There are other choices for those preferring a more friendly environment with images. —
