Hello,

How can I make by custom shape tool shapes, and delete, copy, paste, or change the color of the current shape I have chosen ?

When I choose the shape by rectangular marquee tool, and click on the shape and press delete,
I am getting the message :
"could not complete the request, because the content of the layer is not directly editable"

Thanks 🙂

….
N.B.
it is not just for the custom shape – but for circle, rectangle etc… also I cannot choose paint backet tool, and click on the shape, because I am getting the same message :
"could not complete the request, because the content of the layer is not directly editable".

Also how I can I fill the color of the shape, with gradiant color from blue to red ?

Thanks 🙂

Hi there, Eitan!
You’re running into the old vector-shapes-not-editable-as-raster-objects problem! Vector shapes, which is what you get when you use the Shape Layer option for the Shape tools, can be edited as vectors. That means that you can fill them with colors, resize, reshape.. stuff like that. But you can’t apply filters or erase parts of them or draw on them, because those are operations that you can only do on a rasterized object.

To rasterize an object, go to Layer > Rasterize .. Shape. Then you will be able to edit it as pixels (raster object).

Another way around this, if you know that you are not going to need to edit your shape as a vector object, is to select the Fill Pixels option in the Shape Options bar.

For more on vectors vs. rasterized objects and shapes in general, have a look at my shapes tutorials beginning with What’s the Vector, Victor? which you can find at http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/shapes6/shapes6.htm . Good luck!
