Hello,
I’m creating a color profile on Epson Photo Quality paper (matte) and I am very disappointed by the Epson SP R800, which has a very tight gamut. On the same paper, my old Epson SP 950 had a gamut much larger !!!!!

Maybe is it because of the new pigment-based ink used on the R800..

I have seen the Epson R300/R320/R200/R220 models use dye-based ink, does anyone have created profiles on such printers, using matte paper? Because I would like to know how are their gamut comparated with the R800 and the 950 (on matte paper, not photo paper)..

Thank you very much in advance.
Bob.

If you want a better gamut than an R800/1800 then go to the R2400 using the K3 pigment inks. Search for reviews and you’ll see what I mean. The new large format 4800, 7800, 9800 printers all use the same inks as the R2400.

little too much expensive for me 😉 (to do as good as an older medium range printer, if you know what I mean…)

But thanx for the advice.

Using LabMeter, it looks like the R800/R1800 have a wider gamut for glossy paper than the R2400. The R2400 does beat it for matte papers though.

Check it out yourself: http://curvemeister.com/tutorials/LabMeter/index.htm

Thank you for the link, this plugin looks quite nice.

Do you know where I could download standard ICC profiles of the Epson R300/R200 ? so as to visualize it ?
(maybe installing the driver automatically copy a standard ICC Profile?)

Thanx in advance.

I would guess that Epson’s Web site would have it. They are pretty good about that. Well, for their own papers, of course. I haven’t check though.

I did find, install, test, and then deleted the R2400 profiles to test out what he was saying.

I do know that a lot of paper makers don’t bother with some printer profiles. They seem to go for the advanced printers.

You can download the ICC Profiles for the R800 on the Epson site. I have a R1800 which is the same basic printer and their profiles work great.
