I’m using Windows XP and Version 7 of Photoshop. In photoshop I can not save a picture as a .gif nor in imageready. So what did I change by accident and how do I get it back? In photoshop I could deal, but you can’t save imageready files as .jpg..they won’t move.

Any help is really appreciated! 🙂

Try trashing preferences. You CAN indeed save as jpg in ImageReady. What does "they won’t move" mean?

Are you updated to 7.0.1 as you should be?

I’ll try trashing the preferences again. I did it about a month ago, so how often should I be doing it?

What I mean is that when you save it flatens the image, so if you made it moving..it now does not.

I do have "automatic" updates, so I should have 7.0.1, but I’ll go check.

GIF is 256 color only, so you have to change the color mode to ‘Indexed Colors’ first.

If your animation has more than one frame you should be editing it in Image Ready. (the new CS2 has this in regular PS) There is a frames palette, if you can see it look under window>Animation, here you can make as many frames in the gif as you want, set the times etc.
In another palette called "optimize" in drop down list choose "GIF" in there compare to original file with 2 up and then FILE>"save optimized as"

You should trash preferences when Photoshop acts weird.

I am not sure automatic updates to 7.0.1.

You can’t have an animated jpg. I am not sure why you can’t save an animated gif out of ImageReady. Are you Saving Optimized As? Do you have gif selected in the Optimize palette?

You can’t do a Save As and save a GIF if the image is RGB or CMYK. GIF files are always Indexed Color.

You have two choices. Either convert to Indexed Color using the Image->Mode command, or use the Save for Web command.

Of course it does! JPEG does not support layers and does not support animation. There is no such thing as a layered JPEG and no such thing as a moving JPEG.
