Hi folks,
I was experimenting with masks, which I still do not understand, but somehow now whenever I start a new file and do anything on it the layers have the join symbol with a vector mask. I can get rid of it by deleting the mask but how do I get back to the way it was where there was never a vector mask. Life was much easier then.
I hope I have explained this properly. I have Photoshop 7. thanks for your help,
Barb

Not clear to me what you are doing, but I’ll take a guess. Are you using a Shape tool? If so, look at the three icons on the left of the Options Bar. I suspect you don’t want the one on the left or the middle; you want the one on the right.

Of that’s not it, maybe you can explain what you are doing a little more completely.
