I was recently asked to potentially undertake a graphics project which has the makings of being beyond my bailiwick. In short, though I would love to assist with this project where I can, I know not where to begin, apart from tossing out a few pleading questions w/hopes of being answered w/solutions my two brain cells can handle (if not simple direction to Photoshop Tutorials for Dummies).
a) Would I require Adobe Illustrator to achieve sculpted lines similar to this graphic? [http://www.womentodaymagazine.com/images/headerhomepage.jpg]
b) How do designers achieve rounded/blended edges, via tedious use of the blur tool?
c) How was the shadow implemented? Tell me this isn’t the result of a meticulous paint job; tell me that Photoshop has a feature enabling users to add shadow to a particular layer, set the direction of its cast, etc.
I have on hand the Photoshop 5.5 Wow! book (as correlates w/my version), though given that I do not retain much from books, that any preexisting Photoshop know-how was learned thru mild tinkering (and is limited to photo editing)–I seem to be a visual learner who requires excessive demonstration and babying–reading portions of the book has not had its desired effect.
Any suggestions and/or advice to stick to what I know (which, again, accumulates to next to nothing) is appreciated.
Thank you,
Hannah Subra
